Structural and Magnetic Properties of Yb0.5Ce0.5Ni5

The rare-earth magnetism in the intermetallic compound Yb0.5Ce0.5Ni5 was studied using X-ray diffraction, magnetization, heat capacity, and electrical resistivity measurements. effect of spin fluctuations (SF) observed M(T) at ~40 K. measurement thermal transport properties supported results obtained from magnetic Collected experimental data showed that Yb/Ce substitution shifts maximum temperature for to a lower compared pure CeNi5. Moreover, low temperatures, an anomaly capacity possible origin arising Yb3+ detected. Ce atoms seemed remain non-magnetic valence state almost 4+.
